Stockport County have recently launched an innovative website aimed at helping the club buy back their home ground – Edgeley Park. In 2003 Coca Cola League Two football club was sold by its private owners to a consortium. Due to the large debts that had been left with the club, the ownership of Edgeley Park - the clubs home for more than over 100 years – was taken away from The Hatters.
In 2005 the fans of SCFC succeeded in buying back the club, and in doing so became one of a handful of clubs that are owned by their supporters. Ownership of the stadium is the only way to secure the long term future of the club, which celebrates its 125th centenary this year. The club are selling pixels to supporters and football followers in general via the website www.groundforapound.com. The club hope to raise £1 million as a deposit on the £4.5 million purchase of the ground.
Stockport County are a club rich in tradition, and one that is at the heart of its community. Work The Channels has purchased pixels to help support this real club with real fans, and urge fellow football followers to do so also, irrespective of the team you support. We wish Stockport County good luck and hope to see their dreams of owning Edgeley Park become reality in the near future.

From the end of the season in May, in conjunction with The Stags’ media partner Mansfield 103.2FM, we have so far achieved a five figure sum in additional revenue, bringing on board local and European commercial clients including East Midlands Designer Outlet. This was achieved despite the club enduring their most difficult time in recent history, which has been highly documented in both local and national media. |
